This Cookie Policy explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on the SettlePay website at https://settlepay.uk (“the site”). It tells you what these technologies are, which ones we use, why, and how you can control them.
The site is operated by Finlay Salisbury, trading as SettlePay, of 2b Rodney Street, London, N1 9FS, United Kingdom. SettlePay is a trading name of a sole trader; it is not a limited company.
This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.
The Short Version
The SettlePay site is a simple static marketing website. By default it sets only strictly-necessary cookies and equivalent local storage to make the site work and keep it secure. It does not currently set any advertising, marketing, or third-party tracking cookies, and it does not run analytics.
Because we currently set no non-essential cookies, you will not see a cookie consent banner on the site. If that ever changes (for example, if we add analytics in future), we will update this policy and show a consent banner so that you can choose before any non-essential cookies are set.
What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device (computer, phone, or tablet). When you return to the site, your browser can send that file back, which lets the site remember certain things.
“Similar technologies” include things that work in a comparable way, such as:
- Local storage and session storage — small amounts of data your browser keeps for a site, used to remember settings or hold information temporarily.
- Pixels, tags, and scripts — small pieces of code that can read or set the technologies above.
In this policy, where we say “cookies” we mean cookies and these similar technologies together, unless we say otherwise.
The Law: PECR and Consent
In the UK, the use of cookies and similar technologies is governed mainly by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), alongside the UK GDPR where personal data is involved.
Under PECR, you must be given clear information about cookies and, for most cookies, you must give your consent before they are set. There is an important exception:
- Strictly-necessary cookies are exempt from consent. Cookies that are essential to provide a service you have asked for — for example, to make pages load correctly or to keep the site secure — do not require your consent under PECR. We still tell you about them here.
All other cookies — for example, analytics or advertising cookies — require your prior consent. As explained above, the site does not currently use any cookies in those categories, so no consent is needed at the moment.
Cookie Categories
The table below describes the categories of cookies and similar technologies, and which of them the site uses today.
| Category | Used on this site today? | Consent required? | What it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Yes (minimal) | No — exempt under PECR | Essential to deliver the site you have asked for: serving pages, basic security, and remembering technical state during your visit. The site cannot function properly without these. |
| Preferences | Not currently | Yes, if added | Would remember choices you make to personalise your experience (for example, a remembered preference). We do not currently set any preference cookies. If we add any, we will list them here. |
| Analytics | No | Yes | Would help us understand how visitors use the site (for example, which pages are viewed) so we can improve it. We do not run analytics today. Analytics cookies will only ever be set with your consent, and only if and when analytics are later enabled. |
| Advertising / third-party tracking | No | Yes | Cookies used to build a profile of your interests, show targeted advertising, or track you across other websites. We do not use any advertising or third-party tracking cookies, and we have no current plans to. |
Strictly-Necessary Cookies and Storage
These are the only cookies and storage the site sets by default. They are limited to what is genuinely needed to serve the site and keep it secure — for example, holding short-lived technical information for the duration of your visit. They do not track you across other websites and are not used for advertising or profiling. Because they are strictly necessary, they are exempt from consent under PECR.
If you block strictly-necessary cookies and storage in your browser, parts of the site may not work as intended.
Web Fonts Loaded From a Third-Party CDN
To display text in the right typefaces, the site may load web fonts from a third-party content delivery network (CDN), such as Fontshare or Google Fonts.
When your browser requests a font file from one of these services, the request is made directly from your browser to that provider. As with any web request, the provider may log technical information including your IP address, the type of browser and device you use, and the page that requested the font. This is a normal part of how the internet delivers files.
Please note:
- These font requests are used to deliver the font files themselves.
- Loading these fonts does not set cookies on your device for tracking purposes and is not used by us for advertising or profiling.
- The font provider processes the request under its own terms and privacy notice. If you would like to understand how a particular provider handles this technical data, please refer to that provider’s own privacy information.
If you prefer not to send any requests to these third-party CDNs, you can use browser settings or extensions that block third-party requests, or browse with the relevant content blocked. The site is designed to remain readable using your device’s standard fonts if web fonts do not load.
How to Control or Refuse Cookies
You are in control of cookies and similar technologies. You can accept, refuse, or delete them at any time using your browser settings.
Most browsers let you:
- See which cookies are stored and delete them individually or all at once.
- Block all cookies, or block only third-party cookies.
- Clear cookies and site data when you close the browser.
- Use a private or incognito window.
Help pages for the most common browsers:
- Google Chrome — see Chrome’s “Clear, allow and manage cookies” help.
- Apple Safari — see Safari’s “Manage cookies and website data” help.
- Mozilla Firefox — see Firefox’s “Cookies” help.
- Microsoft Edge — see Edge’s “Delete and manage cookies” help.
If you use a different browser, look for “cookies”, “privacy”, or “site data” in its settings or help section. On mobile devices, these settings are usually found within the browser app’s own settings.
Because the site does not currently set non-essential cookies, there is no on-site setting to change — controlling cookies for this site is done through your browser. If we add a category that needs consent in future, we will provide an on-site way to set and change your choice.
Consequences of Disabling Cookies
The strictly-necessary cookies and storage we use are there to make the site work and keep it secure. If you block or delete them:
- Some pages or features may not display or behave correctly.
- The site may be unable to remember short-lived technical information during your visit, which can affect how smoothly it works.
You will not lose access to any advertising or tracking features by blocking cookies, because we do not use any.
What Would Change if We Add Analytics
If we decide to enable analytics in future, we will:
- Update this Cookie Policy to describe the analytics tool, the cookies or storage it uses, what they do, and how long they last.
- Show a cookie consent banner so you can accept or refuse non-essential cookies before any are set.
- Make sure analytics cookies are set only where you have given consent, and provide a way for you to change or withdraw that consent.
We will not set analytics or any other non-essential cookies without first asking you.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, if we change how the site works or add new technologies. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If we make a significant change, such as introducing cookies that require consent, we will take reasonable steps to make that clear (for example, through a consent banner). Please check this page from time to time to stay informed.
