SettlePay helps small UK businesses take card and online payments properly, without the admin, the awkward phone calls or the pile of bank statements to reconcile by hand.
We build you a bespoke, branded payment page and wire it into the accounting software you already use. The money goes straight to your bank. You keep control. We handle the plumbing.
What We Do
Most small businesses don’t need another payment “platform”. They need the pieces joined up so payments just work. That’s what we do, in three plain parts.
The Front Door. We design and build a secure, branded checkout or pay-by-link page that lives on your own website or sits on your invoices. Your customers see your name and your colours, with familiar options like Apple Pay, Google Pay and standard card entry, so paying feels safe and normal.
The Engine Room. Behind that page sits an established, FCA-regulated payment processor such as Stripe, GoCardless, Checkout.com or Adyen. They process the payment securely and you get a single, clean dashboard to see who has paid. We never touch your funds; they settle directly from the processor to your own business bank account on a reliable schedule.
The Bookkeeper. We build the bridge between your payments and your accounting software, such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage. When a customer pays, the matching invoice is marked as paid automatically. No re-keying, no guessing which payment belongs to whom.
PCI DSS compliance is handled by your chosen payment processor. Using a hosted payment page typically reduces your business’s PCI scope, often to SAQ A, though you remain responsible for completing your own PCI Self-Assessment. We’re happy to point you in the right direction.
How We’re Different
No lock-in. We don’t trap you in a proprietary SettlePay system. Everything we build runs on standard tools you can keep and maintain whether or not you carry on working with us.
We never hold your money. SettlePay is a technology and integration provider, not a payment institution. Your funds move directly from the FCA-regulated processor to your bank account. We are never in the middle of it.
You keep your own account. We guide you through opening your own merchant account with the processor, in your own business name. It belongs to you. We’re the engineers who set it up well, not a middleman taking a cut of every sale.
It doesn’t look like everyone else’s. Your payment page is designed around your brand, not dropped in from a template. To your customers it should feel like a natural part of your business, because it is.
Who We Work With
We work with small UK businesses that have outgrown bank transfers, cheques and card details read out over the phone: auctioneers, estate and lettings agents, sole traders and SMEs that want to get paid faster without changing how they like to work.
Our first live client is Lockdales Auctioneers, where a bespoke payment portal replaced days of manual reconciliation after each sale.
Other situations we describe, such as a lettings business chasing rent or a merchant collecting overdue invoices, are illustrative examples used to explain how the model works. We’ll never dress up a hypothetical as a real customer.
Our Approach
Calm, honest and fast. We won’t bury you in jargon or sell you something you don’t need. If a simpler option suits you better, we’ll say so.
Most setups go live in days, not weeks. If you have a deadline, an upcoming auction or a busy period coming up, an urgent service is available so you’re ready in time.
We’re clear about how things actually work, including the parts that take a day or two, like the time funds take to settle. You should never feel misled about your own cash flow.
A Small, Founder-Led Operation
It’s worth being straightforward about who you’d be dealing with. SettlePay is the trading name of Finlay Salisbury, a sole trader. It’s a small, founder-led operation, not a faceless company with a call centre.
That’s deliberate. It means you talk to the person doing the work, decisions happen quickly, and the responsibility for getting it right sits with one named individual. Personal and accountable, by design.
